Basketball season is here. TSSAA boys basketball games tip off this week in the Memphis area, so it's only right to get familiarized with some of the area's top talents returning to the hardwood. See below some of the area's top returning boys high school basketball players. Kylan Neville, Bartlett, Sr.: Neville is the lone returning starter from Bartlett's 4A state semifinal team. Last season, he averaged 4.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals. Neville holds offers from Arkansas Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas and Arkansas State among others. E'Derian Washington, Bolton, Sr.: Washington averaged 18.7 points and 1.1 rebounds last season in 18 games. Fred Smith Jr., Briarcrest, Jr.: Smith was an All-State and Commercial Appeal All-Metro first-team player last season after averaging 15.9 points, nine rebounds and a team-high 4.3 assists. The 6-foot-6 forward helped Briarcrest win its third DII-AA state title last season with 29 points and 15 rebounds in the final. He has offers from Memphis, West Virginia and Tennessee State among others. KJ Patrick, DeSoto Central, Sr.: Patrick is DeSoto Central's leading returning scorer after averaging 17 points, 3.4 rebounds, three assists and two steals last season. Tyler Jones, Evangelical Christian School, Jr.: Jones was an All-State player as a sophomore, averaging 14.8 points, three rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals. MJ Hayes, FACS, Jr.: Hayes averaged 16 points, helping the Crusaders to a state title. The 247Sports three-star, who was a TSWA all state player last season, has offers from Ole Miss, Missouri and Mississippi State among others. Keron Jackson, Houston, Sr.: Jackson averaged 10.9 points, 6.5 rebounds (team high) and 2.8 assists per game last season. The 6-foot-7 wing currently holds offers from Portland and Jacksonville University. Jacob Walker, Houston, Sr.: Walker, a Sam Houston State commit, proved himself as one of the top guards in the Memphis area last season, helping FACS to back-to-back state titles. The 6-foot guard will finish his high school career at Houston this season. Larry Benson III, Memphis Business, Jr.: Benson, a 5-foot-10 point guard, averaged 18.9 points, 6.7 assists and two steals last season, helping MBA to a 15-8 record. Damion Cox Jr., Memphis Central, Sr.: The 6-foot-2 guard led Central with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals last season, earning the title of district MVP and crossing the 1,000-point career mark. Cox has offers from Arizona State, UT Arlington, SIUE and others. Jadyn Lee, Munford, Sr.: Lee, a 6-foot-2 guard, averaged over 20 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals last season, helping Munford to a 23-5 record. Amari Spates, Oakhaven, Sr.: Spates was Oakhaven's second on the team in points last season, posting 15.4 points and helping the Hawks to a 10-7 record. Kris Carroll, Southwind, Sr.: Carroll, a transfer from FACS' state title team, averaged 12 points last season. He has an offer from Rhodes College. Jackson Jones, St. George's, Sr.: Jones averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists last season. Jarmon Brittman, Whitehaven, Sr.: Brittman, a transfer forward from Douglass' state finalist team, averaged 15 points last season with the Red Devils, earning a TSWA All-State honors and a spot on The Commercial Appeal's All-Metro second team. Taquez Butler, Whitehaven, Sr.: Butler averaged over 15 points last season at Douglass where he led the Red Devils on a 35-game win streak and was a TSWA All-State and CA All-Metro third-team honoree. The 247Sports three-star has offers from Arizona State, Radford and St. Louis among others. Teryck White, Memphis Business, Sr.: White, a 6-foot-2 guard, posted averages of 17.8 points, four rebounds and three assists last season.
