The voters have spoken. And they have chosen Canon Day as The Daily Memphian high school football player of the week for Week 12.
Day, a freshman, made his debut as a starter in Houston’s Class 6A playoff opener and was outstanding. He completed 8 of 11 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns while running for 105 on seven carries and two more scores as the defending state champs drubbed Dickson County, 42-7.
Day garnered 39.5% of this week’s vote and joins his older brother Chandler as winners this year. It was Chandler Day’s injury that paved the way for Canon to get the start last week.
Second place at 28.9% went to Collierville running back John Hampton. The senior ran for 181 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 35-3 win against Rossview in 6A.
Third place went to MASE quarterback Brody Whittaker. Covington’s Skylan Smith, Melrose’s Jamarion Morrow, Cody Balkin of Germantown and Rico Isom of Middle College rounded out the field.
