Day, the quarterback for state champion Houston High, won 43% of this week’s vote after leading the Mustangs to a victory against region rival Germantown in an instant classic of a game. The senior scored the winning touchdown on a 37-yard run with 32 seconds left as the Mustangs won their 15th straight game, 36-30.
Overall, Day completed 12 of 21 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns while carrying nine times for 93 yards and his game-winning score. He’s the third-straight quarterback to win the player-of-the-week vote, joining Brett Godwin of Lakeland Prep and last week’s winner, Brady Hughes of MUS.
Second place, with 35%, went to ECS quarterback Kade Butler, who threw five touchdown passes in a 58-0 victory against Kingsbury. Covington running back Skylan Smith was third, followed by Whitehaven running back Christopher Talley, MASE quarterback Brody Whitaker and Fairley quarterback Andrew Johnson.
