The TSSAA football season is fast approaching and Memphis-area teams are gearing up for what's poised to be a big year of region title races across the city.

With input from local high school football coaches, The Commercial Appeal selected the top regular-season games in Memphis this season based on their region championship implications and the inclusion of some of the city's best players. Games are listed in chronological order.

Houston at Germantown
Date: Sept. 6

Region 8-6A will be one of the most highly-contested regions in Memphis this season, with defending Class 6A state champion Houston, defending region champion Germantown and Bartlett likely all vying at the top. A rematch of last season's Class 6A state quarterfinal game, this matchup figures to be one of, if not the biggest game in the Memphis area this season. Houston defeated the region champions 30-10 in last season's playoffs, avenging its one-point loss during Week 3. This should be another close one.

Houston at Bartlett
Date: Oct. 4

Another tasty Region 8-6A game, Bartlett finished third in the region last season with an 8-4 overall record, one spot behind Houston, who lost just one region game. Both teams return all-state talent like Mustangs quarterback Chandler Day and Panthers running back Geron Johnson, a Mississippi State commit. A season ago, Houston won this game 24-14 at home.
