Daily Memphian postseason swimming awards: Swimmers from Collierville, Houston lead the way

Here are The Daily Memphian postseason swimming awards, featuring our boys and girls swimmers of the year, coach of the year and all-metro teams.

Honorees were chosen based on regular-season and postseason performance, with emphasis given to the latter. For questions, please email jvarlas@dailymemphian.com.

Boys swimmer of the year
Ian Call

Ian Call, Collierville, freshman: Call won a pair of races at the Shelby County championship meet, taking the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:55.08 and the 100 breaststroke in 57.56. He placed sixth in the state meet in the latter race, lowering his time to 56.55 and making himself the lone Shelby County boy to earn a top-eight finish.

Girls swimmer of the year
Eva Rottink

Eva Rottink, Houston, sophomore: Rottink led the Mustangs to a team title at the Shelby County meet, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:51.78 and the 50 freestyle in 23.63 while also swimming on a pair of first-place relays. At state, she won the 100 backstroke (53.59), took second in the 200 free and had the lead leg on the Mustangs’ title-winning 200 IM relay and the 400 freestyle squad that took second.
