Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is recognizing a spring sports athlete of the week. But we need your help.

Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games, and we’d like for you — our readers — to select the winner. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 11.

Joe Cherry, St. Benedict soccer: Cherry has been a fine goal-scoring form for the Eagles. He bagged two in a 5-4 victory over Munford on April 4 then netted another pair the following day as SBA edged Brighton, 4-3, to improve to 5-1-1.

Addie Graham, Arlington softball: The senior put together a pair of big games for the Tigers, who are now 18-3. Graham went 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs in an 8-6 victory over Houston on April 4 and followed up by going 4 for 5 with three RBI, three runs and a pair of stolen bases in a 12-1 victory over Briarcrest the following day. She also went 3 for 5 and drove in a run as Arlington won over St. Benedict, 10-5, on April 3.

Zoe Marsh, Houston track: Marsh, a senior, recorded the state’s top time in the 800 while competing at Bartlett’s Panther Relays. Her winning time was 2:14.68, nearly a full second better than the previous top mark set by Collierville’s Ava Lang.

Alvin Nguyen, Lakeland Prep soccer: Ngyuen scored in all three matches last week as Lakeland’s first-year varsity program improved to 3-1-1. He had one as the Lions tied MHEA, 2-2, on April 1 and scored twice in a 6-1 victory over Ridgeway on April 2. To close the week, he was one of several scorers as Lakeland drubbed University High, 11-2, on April 5.

Phinn Waters, Briarcrest baseball: The fact that Waters tossed a six-inning no-hitter against St. Benedict on April 1 wasn’t even the most impressive aspect of his outing. The sophomore recorded all of his outs on strikeouts — 18 in total — while walking just two and not allowing the Eagles to put a ball in play.

Khari Webb, Collierville track: Competing at the Arrow Invite in Clinton, Mississippi, Webb set a school record in the 300 hurdles in a Tennessee-best time of 42.86, a result that also puts the sophomore in the top 10 nationally. She also won the 100 hurdles with a PR of 14.56, a result that also tops the state rankings.
