Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is recognizing a high school girls basketball player of the week. But we need your help.

Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games, and we’d like for you — our readers — to select the winner. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15.

Allison Irby, Lewisburg: You’d be hard-pressed to find a better performance than the one Irby put up against Oxford in the semifinals of the Region 1-7A tournament on Feb. 7. The senior scored 28 points — connecting on all seven of her 3-point attempts — while adding six rebounds and five steals in a 52-45 win.

Curnesha Taylor, Memphis Business Academy: Taylor did a little bit of everything in the MSCIAA Class 2A championship game on Feb. 10, finishing with 28 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, three steals and four blocks as MBA downed Bluff City, 67-34.

Alana Whiten, Millington Central: Coach Jason Nichols’ girls were on fire from the 3-point line against Brighton on Feb. 6, hitting 12. Whiten had five of them and ended up with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals in her te... Click here to read full article
