Here’s a look at what to expect from the local teams when the second round of the TSSAA playoffs takes place Friday. All games will be at 7 p.m. unless noted.
Class 6A
(4) Collierville (8-3) at (2) Houston (9-2)
The rundown: Red-hot Houston — winners of eight in a row — had an early night against Dickson County last week, leaving plenty of time to gather in the coaches’ office and watch the final moments of Collierville’s game in Clarksville, Tennessee.
And what a game that was. Collierville trailed by 12 midway through the fourth and was playing with its backup quarterback. But Grant Troutman engineered two touchdown drives and scored the winner with 39 seconds to go as the Dragons pulled it out, 23-22.
It’s unknown if Troutman will be under center against the Mustangs or if starter Aidan Glover will be back. But either way, the onus will be on the Dragons to eat up some clock and keep Houston’s high-octane offense off the field. The Mustangs have averaged 40.7 points in their winning streak, which includes a 42-28 victory over Collierville in the regular-season finale Oct. 27.
