“I love Lauren; she’s a tough competitor,” Christopher said. “And she’s a really good sport, too. She’s so deserving ... I just never could get anything going like I wanted to. It was up and down, but I still had fun.”
Although it wasn’t the finish she was planning, Christopher — last year’s state champion — will go down as one of the top golfers from Memphis in the last decade or so. She said that high school golf is different from the junior tournaments’ players like she competes against because of the team aspect.
And it’s those relationships that made Tuesday a tough day for her.
“I was just soaking it all in, all the way from the first tee until I made my last putt on 18,” Christopher said. “I’m really said to be leaving all my friends and my coach (Steve Bell). That was running through my head through the last round: ‘This is really the last one.’”
