Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games and we’re asking our readers to vote for the winner. Voting will end at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Here are the candidates for Week 6.
Gabe Boyd, CBHS baseball: Four was Boyd’s magic number against Germantown on April 22. The Mississippi State commit went 4 for 4 with four runs and four RBI while hitting two doubles and a home run to spark the Brothers to a 16-0 victory. Two days earlier, Boyd went 2 for 3 with an RBI in his team’s 8-4 win over ECS.
David DeBerry, Collierville track: Performing on his home track at the Dragon Relays, DeBerry put on a show. The junior won the 200 in a time of 21.98 and set a personal best while taking the 400 in 48.84. DeBerry also finished second in the 100 meters behind Arlington standout Gabriel Torres.
Caleb Doty, Lausanne baseball: Doty got it done both at the plate and on the mound for the Lynx last week. He pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in a 5-3 victory over district rival ECS on April 17 while batting .500 with six hits, two doubles, one home run and six RBI.
Aliya Garcia, Brighton softball: The Cardinals’ sophomore third baseman drove in nine runs in a game earlier this season and almost matched that against McKenzie on April 22, plating seven runners while going 3 for 3 with two homers in a 9-3 victory. Garcia also went 2 for 3 in a 12-3 loss to Decatur Riverside the same day and went 4 for 5 with another round-tripper in Brighton’s 15-7 win over Munford on April 20.
Parker Jackson, Bartlett baseball: The junior left-hander turned in a gem for the Panthers against Northpoint on April 20, holding the Trojans to three hits over seven innings while striking out seven in a 3-1 victory.
Trotter Jones, Houston soccer: Jones scored a first-half hat trick against Cordova on April 18, sparking the Mustangs to an impressive 8-0 victory.
Charlee Smith, St. Benedict softball: Smith had the hot bat against Briarcrest on April 20, going 2 for 3 with a triple, a homer and three RBI as the Eagles won, 16-4.
Khari Webb, White Station track and field: Despite being a freshman, Webb is already making her mark on the local scene. She won two events at the Dragon Relays, taking the 200 in 26.41 and the 100 hurdles in 15.43. A versatile all-around, she also placed second in the long jump behind the N...
