Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is recognizing a high school spring athlete of the week. But we need your help.

Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games and we’re asking our readers to vote for the winner. Voting will end at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Here are the candidates for Week 3.

Daphne Fowler, Millington softball: The Trojans posted one their biggest victories in program history on March 29, edging perennially-strong St. Benedict, 11-10. Fowler, a senior, led the way, going 4 for 5 and scoring three runs.

Trenton Lyons, CBHS baseball: No one is swinging a hotter bat lately than Lyons, the Brothers’ catcher and three-hole hitter. He went 3 for 3 with two homers, a triple and three RBI in a 12-2 victory over Mundelein (Ill.) on March 30. Lyons homered again and drove in three more runs as CBHS beat Bartlett, 8-2, on April 1 and he had a solo shot in a 5-2 loss to Willard (Mo.) that same day.

Zoe Marsh, Houston track: It’s a busy spring for Marsh, who is also one of Houston’s better softball players. Her specialty is running though and she showed why she’s one of the state’s best at the Panther Relays. The junior won the 800 in 2:24.70 and also captured the 1,600 in 5:17.15.

Conner McNatt, Northpoint baseball: The senior was a one-man wrecking crew against Harding on March 27. McNatt went 4 for 5 with two home runs and eight RBI and pitched a four-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts as the Trojans won, 24-0.

Ezekiel Miller, Bartlett track: Miller, a senior, won both hurdles races on his home track at the Panther Relays. He won the 110 in 15.14 and recorded a state-best time of 38.98 in the 300.

Courtland Noble, White Station track: One of the state’s top 400-meter men, Noble clocked the best time in Tennessee so far this season in the event at the Panther Relays hosted by Bartlett. The senior finished in a time of 48.64, edging out Germantown’s Alec Reed.

Emily Richarde, Arlington softball: The Tigers’ ace turned in a lights-out performance against a strong Collierville team on March 30. Richarde held the Dragons to four hits over six innings— striking out 15 — and went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI as Arlington won, 12-2.

Kate Simonic, St. Benedict lacrosse: Simonic had a big game against rival St. Agnes on March 30, hitting the back of the net six times as the Eagles evened their record to 4-4 with a 16-4 victory.

Jordan Ware, Central track: After running the anchor leg last week on Central’s 400-relay team that broke a 40-year-old state record, Ware continued his amazing start to the season at the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Relays in Austin, Texas. The senior ran a 10.28 in the 100-meter preliminaries on March 31, breaking the mark of 10.33 held by Goodlettsville’s Larry Cantrell since 1985. Competing against some of the nation’s top prep talent, Ware qualified third for the finals but was scratched due to a cut on his foot.

Caroline Weems, St. Agnes track and field: Weems will be favored to win the Division 2 pole vault competition at Spring Fling. She threw down an early gauntlet at a me... Click here to read full article
